Sunset Tsunami
Terrorizing sound systems across two hemispheres
ORIGIN: A convicted vinyl thief from London's squatter scene crosses paths with an infamous Kiwi bass player known for technical prowess & tall tales. Sideways cut his teeth in the concrete gardens of South London, DJing in warehouse parties where he lived with a dozen other proud good-for-nothings, whilst Buckwheat emerged from Auckland's skate punk underground, carving up halfpipes and distorted basslines in his girlfriend's garage.
Paths collided at a particularly chaotic warehouse party in 2020, where a shared appreciation for stolen equipment and sonic manipulation sparked an unholy alliance. Operating from their notorious studio ‘The Jungle’ - a leaking basement beneath a condemned building that may tumble at any minute - Sunset Tsunami has developed a fearless reputation for pushing sound systems to their absolute limits.
Their setup consists entirely of "borrowed" gear: Sideway's collection of liberated samplers, including his infamous AKAI MPC (acquired in a "midnight clearance sale"), and Buckwheat's questionably sourced bass amp that he still claims was lifted from The Sex Pistols.
